Sell with The Fossil Market

A marketplace for collectors, built on relationships. The Fossil Market welcomes inquiries from collectors who would like to offer their own fossil specimens through our gallery-style marketplace.

An interview comes first

Every new third-party seller must contact owner/operator Skye Basak for an interview before being approved to sell. Creating a customer account does not provide seller access, and applications are not automatically approved.

How to become a seller

  • Introduce yourself. Tell Skye about your collecting background, the fossils you would like to sell and where you are based. Include representative photographs and provenance information.
  • Interview with Skye. Discuss specimen quality, identification, condition disclosure, photography and how you will support buyers.
  • Confirm approval and terms. Selling access is enabled only after Skye approves the application and the applicable seller arrangements are confirmed.
  • Build your store. Approved vendors can use their seller dashboard to upload photographs, describe specimens, set prices and submit listings for review.

The gallery standard

  • Offer accurately identified fossil specimens with clear descriptions and the best provenance information available.
  • Use photographs of the actual item for sale. Show its front, back, root, tip and any damage clearly.
  • Disclose repairs, restoration, polishing, coatings and uncertainty. Do not present a restored specimen as untouched.
  • Keep inventory and availability accurate, and communicate promptly with clients.
  • Handle every item with the utmost care, package securely for safe arrival, and ship within 2 business days of receiving an order.

Approval of sellers and listings

Seller approval and listing review are separate steps. Approval to participate gives you access to submit products; new listings are reviewed before appearing in the marketplace. It is not permission to make unsupported claims about a specimen.

Seller arrangements

Commission, payment handling, payout timing, shipping responsibilities and other seller terms must be confirmed before selling begins. No standard fee or payout promise is made on this page. In-house client payment plans for third-party specimens require confirmation with Skye and the seller.

Prefer to have us broker your collection?

You can also discuss in-house brokering or a collection visit with sales if you would prefer an arranged brokerage service rather than managing your own seller listings.
